Project Overview
GSM Ltd was awarded the contract for the air conditioning (AC) replacement at Currys Bristol ERDC as part of an upgrade to improve energy efficiency and ensure operational continuity. The project involved replacing aging VRV systems, upgrading electrical supply infrastructure, and optimising HVAC performance in a live working environment.
Challenges and Considerations
- Live Site Operations: The Currys Bristol ERDC operates continuously, necessitating a phased approach to minimise disruption.
- Heavy Lifting Requirements: Equipment was lifted onto the roof using specialist lifting methods to ensure structural safety.
- Coordination of Services: Integration with existing electrical, plumbing, and structural elements required meticulous planning.
- Tight Timeline: The project was scheduled to be completed before the peak trading period to avoid operational disruptions.
Installation Details
- Scope of Works:
- Decommissioning and safe disposal of existing Daikin VRV units.
- Installation of new R32 Daikin VRV systems.
- Replacement of all associated pipework, interconnecting wiring, and electrical modifications.
- Coordination with Chartwell Controls for BMS integration.
- Full system commissioning and performance testing.
- Equipment Installed:
- Indoor Units: Various Daikin FXFQ & FXFA series units strategically placed across ground and first floors.
- Outdoor Units: High-efficiency Daikin RXYSA series VRV condensers.
- Control System: Daikin Intelligent Touch Manager with full integration into Trend BMS.
- Mounting System: BigFoot framework with protective felt mats to safeguard roof integrity.
Key Considerations
- Environmental & Regulatory Compliance: The installation adhered to UK building regulations, F-Gas requirements, and BS EN 378-1-4:2016 standards.
- Safety & Fire Protection: All refrigerant pipework passing through fire compartments and was fitted with fire-rated sleeves.
- Minimal Downtime: A structured out-of-hours power shutdown plan ensured no significant disruption to the facility.
- Optimised Performance: Energy efficiency improvements were incorporated to reduce operational costs and enhance cooling performance.
Outcome & Success
