Commercial Solar Panels

Introduction

For over thirty-five years, GSM Ltd has been operating within the electrical and renewable energy space, delivering fully engineered energy solutions for small workplace installations and large-scale developments alike.

For our commercial solar PV systems, specifically, our approach focuses on long-term performance and integration, ensuring they’re as efficient as possible and there are dependable returns on investment.

So how do we do that, and what exactly are the benefits of solar PV for your business?

Benefits Of Solar Panels

Reduces energy costs through onsite electricity generation
Protects against rising commercial energy prices
Supports sustainability and carbon reduction targets
Integrates with batteries, EV charging, and heat pumps
Delivers dependable returns through long-term energy savings

Solar PV Systems for Commercial Properties

Today, solar PV systems are used by a wide range of commercial properties in the UK, with their value being their proven operational performance and positive impact on the environment.

Our typical applications are diverse and varied, whether it be a public sector estate like the NHS or schools and education campuses. Outside of these sectors, other applications include:

  • Offices and multi-tenant commercial buildings
  • Leisure centres and swimming pools
  • Supermarkets and retail parks
  • Industrial, logistics and manufacturing facilities

Because solar PVs are scalable and can be designed around site-specific requirements, there’s no hard cut-off point for which sectors can integrate them.

It simply depends on site load profiles, available space, and structural capacity, and the nous of the organisations themselves to recognise their benefits and upgrade their energy strategy.

The Benefits of Commercial Solar Panels

Speaking of those benefits, some of the main advantages include:

Integration With Other Renewable Tech

Lastly, our solar PV solutions can be integrated seamlessly with other renewable technologies to create a strong, coherent ecosystem of sustainability.

By designing integrated energy systems that include heat pumps for low-carbon heating or EV chargers for fleet and workplace charging, you have the chance to create a future-ready infrastructure that works in harmony, making you truly independent as a sustainable company.

Reduced Energy Costs

As a business, generating your own electricity on-site significantly lowers your reliance on grid-supplied power, helping you to reduce operational costs over the long term and ultimately reclaim control of your energy expenditure.

Lower Carbon Emissions

Solar PV systems are a cornerstone of effective decarbonisation planning, supporting sustainability targets, reducing your organisation’s overall carbon footprint and environmental impact.

Protection Against Rising Energy Prices

Just as solar PVs can save you money now, they can also shield you from future volatility in commercial electricity pricing.

Every year, the price of energy fluctuates depending on market conditions and supply pressures, but with your own system in place, the cost of generation can be consistent and predictable – no unexpected price spikes, and a stronger foundation for your budget allocation and financial planning.

Minimal Maintenance Requirements

Our modern solar PV systems are also highly reliable, with relatively low ongoing maintenance needed once our team has installed and commissioned the system itself.

What’s more, if you do need assistance with servicing, we offer ongoing support to maintain the efficiency of your system and ensure it’s working at the top of its game long-term.

A Closer Look at Solar PV Integration

We mentioned there that commercial solar PV solutions can be integrated with other tech, but are the additions of technologies like heat pumps or battery storage necessary to make the most out of your solar PV system?

In the same way it does for our domestic solutions, the answer depends on your commercial property’s specific energy demands and operational requirements. Especially in the commercial space, solar PVs are no longer viewed as standalone systems, but as part of a wider energy strategy designed to revolutionise how energy is used across a site.

For many commercial properties, this means prioritising on-site consumption through dynamic load management, ensuring that generated energy is directed to the areas that need it most. This could include supporting battery storage systems, EV charging infrastructure, HVAC systems, or any other electrical demands across the estate.

If you’re a smaller business, however, the requirements might be a little more straightforward. For instance, you might choose to install solar PV panels only, but avoid pairing them with battery storage due to lower energy demand or budget considerations.

In any case, our team will evaluate your specific circumstances when assessing your site, and recommend the best solutions possible to ensure your property is adequately future-proofed.

Being a Mitsubishi Diamond Quality Partner means we have access to more service features for Mitsubishi products such as 10 Year Warranty.

Integration With Existing Solutions

In addition to this, you might already have existing building systems already installed. If this is the case – and you’re concerned that a commercial solar PV solution wouldn’t be compatible – rest assured that compatibility with existing building systems is not only possible, it’s a core part of modern system design.

For instance, our solar PVs support seamless BMS integration. We have extensive experience working with Trend, Carel, and T-MAC – that allow sites to respond dynamically to generation levels, and in some cases, this also extends to plant control, using signals such as 0-10VDC to adjust equipment operation in line with available solar energy.

This level of integration also allows for more strategic use of energy across the building. Rather than exporting excess generation or allowing it to go unused, it can be harnessed to pre-condition buildings – for example, heating or cooling spaces in advance, or running systems ahead of peak occupancy – helping to make better use of available energy without relying on export or curtailment.

To put it simply, solar PVs don’t operate independently of commercial properties, but rather, integrate directly into the existing infrastructure to support the wider operation of the building itself.

Why Choose GSM Ltd?

As for why you would choose us, specifically, it’s all about choosing a specialist partner that understands the commercial energy space inside and out.

We don’t outsource installation or design, but instead rely on engineers and a fully in-house CAD design department, professionally trained and employed by us, ensuring the standards remain consistent and quality is maintained.

We also make sure to communicate with you at every stage of the process. It’s important to recognise, of course, that every property is different, and therefore, every installation will have its own requirements and considerations.

We don’t just supply and install a generic product, we create a tailored solution that works around your operational needs, and communicate clearly with you about any project developments.

For instance, if you want both solar PV and EV charging – or perhaps a smart dashboard that can monitor and optimise energy usage – we’d assess your building, design a fully integrated system, and then manage the installation from start to finish.

We’d also take the time to train your facilities team on how to operate it, ensuring that your staff feel confident and can troubleshoot any issues if something goes wrong – although our team is only a phone call away from supporting you with any maintenance should you need it.

As mentioned before, we can also pair your commercial solar PV with a host of other renewable solutions.
