How to Overcome Grid Limitations with Battery Storage
Speaking of grid limitations, this is often one of the main constraints when deploying commercial EV charging infrastructure.
If your site has limited grid capacity, of course, that means that the total power available might not be enough to support multiple chargers simultaneously, which is a problem when it comes to meeting demand during periods of high usage.
At GSM Ltd, however, we can design systems that supplement limited grid connections using large-scale battery storage, enabling projects to proceed without costly or delayed grid upgrades.
As for what battery storage actually does, these are essentially high-capacity energy banks that can store electricity from the grid – or on-site solar generation, which we’ll go into a little later – during periods of low demand or off-peak tariffs, and then discharge that energy to support EV charging during peak usage.
This not only enables higher numbers of chargers to be installed within existing grid limits – reducing demand on the grid connection by making it a far less important component of the EV charging system itself – but also adds flexibility to your overall energy strategy.
